Hiring Conditions Get Stronger in March for Manufacturing & Services March 5, 2010 - As the long recovery continues for the labor market, more manufacturers and service-sector companies are expected to add to their payrolls in March, according to the Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) Leading Indicators of National Employment (LINE) survey for March 2010. Environmental Protection's Salary Survey Results - A Time of Job Cuts and Moves February 26, 2010 - Nearly 39 percent of Environmental Protection's annual Salary Survey respondents said they changed jobs in 2009 because of job cuts, and a slightly higher percentage, 42 percent, said they left because they were looking for more pay and better benefits [Table 1]. Those numbers translate into quite a lot of activity for about 976 of the 1,212 respondents who participated in the survey in 2009. Read More
Government Jobs You Should Apply For Now March 10, 2010 - Although the unemployment rate is stuck at 9.7% and hiring at companies large and small remains moribund, the federal government has thousands of jobs open now. Uncle Sam will hire 600,000 people over the next four years, a 50% increase over the previous four, reports Max Stier of the Washington-based Partnership for Public Service, a group that promotes government jobs. Senate Passes Jobs Legislation February 24, 2010 - The U.S. Senate approved on Feb. 24, 2010, a $15 billion jobs bill that had been pared down to garner bipartisan support. The legislation passed by a vote of 70-28 with 13 Republican senators joining the Democrats to support an effort to revive the lagging U.S. job market. Read More
Jobs Are Coming . . . . Slowly February 17, 2010 - Companies will begin slowly adding to their payrolls in 2010, according to an annual White House review of the economy. The unemployment rate is expected to stand at 10% during 2010, according to the White House Council of Economic Advisers, which last Thursday released a 462-page analysis of the president's economic initiatives. U.S. Salary Increase Budgets Barely Matching Inflation February 15, 2010 - With total salary increase budgets in the U.S. barely exceeding inflation, even top performers might be disappointed to discover that their 2010 raises—in many cases following a year of frozen compensation—are only keeping up with cost-of-living increases, according to The Conference Board’s Salary Increase Budgets for 2010—Winter Update report.
