The Environmental Health Program at Illinois State University develops professionals who work to ensure public and environmental health. The Environmental Health Program offers both a major and a minor degree.
Environmental Health focuses on the assessment, control and prevention of biological, chemical and physical hazards in our environment that may lead to human health problems or environmental damage. EH prepares students for professional careers in three primary (informal) tracks:
- Public Health
- Occupational Health (Industrial Hygiene)
- Environmental Protection
Graduates receive a Bachelor's of Science (B.S.) degree in Environmental Health. The Program is fully accredited by the National Environmental Health Science Protection Accreditation Council (NEHSPAC). Unlike graduates of other majors, graduates from our program are immediately eligible to take the following certifications:
- State of Illinois Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner (LEHP) examination
- National Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) examination, administered by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA)
