East Central University

The Environmental Health Science program contributes to the overall mission of East Central University by offering a baccalaureate degree in Environmental Health Science. A minimum of fifty (50) hours are required for a major; no minor is needed. In addition, the program offers a viable minor for students with other majors in the natural sciences and social sciences.

The EHS Program is one of the eighteen undergraduate and ten pre-professional programs administered through the School of Mathematics and Sciences (SMS). The EHS Program supports the SMS mission by offering numerous courses to educate students about the interactions between humans and their environment and in the technologies used to protect human health and the natural environment. The Programs internship requirement further promotes the SMS mission by encouraging involvement in research activities.

Environmental Health Science is an interdisciplinary field of study that includes the natural and social sciences and the application of those sciences to the areas of environmental health and environmental protection. The major in Environmental Health Science prepares students for employment as environmental health specialists and environmental protection specialists with industry and governmental agencies. In addition, the completion of the major prepares students for graduate programs in environmental health and environmental science.
