NAEM, the premier association for EHS Management, is a non-profit, non-partisan educational association dedicated to advancing the knowledge and practice of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) management. NAEM, formerly known as the National Association for Environmental Management, strives to improve awareness and use of efficient, effective leadership methods.
As a member organization, NAEM offers environmental/EHS managers a professional organization in which to participate and develop the leadership skills that will assist them in integrating EHS and environmental management into all aspects of their business as well as in meeting the personal and professional challenges of tomorrow.
The Association works to enhance the competency and skills of its members by providing high caliber focused professional development opportunities through its programs, publications, and networking. The Association provides cost-effective, peer-reviewed programs that focus on the management and leadership challenges inherent to the organizational function of environmental, health, and safety industries. |
Who We Are
By, for, and about Environmental and EHS managers, NAEM is the leading professional environmental association dedicated to advancing the principles and profession of EHS management.
NAEM, formerly the National Association for Environmental Management, is a dynamic and supportive organization that is determined to make environmental information regarding management systems more widespread. Its membership consists of "in-house" Environmental and EHS managers (vice presidents, directors, managers, supervisory engineers, etc) in organizations nationwide who value life-long learning, continuous education, and professional networking.
The Association was created in 1990 by a small group of environmental management professionals who realized there was no entity in existence for environmental managers from a wide range of industries to exchange ideas and gain insight and knowledge from each other. Today, NAEM is an international organization with more than 1,000 members.
NAEM's programs and initiatives focus on the management issues inherent to the environmental and/or EHS function of a regulated entity (business and service operations, governmental and municipal, and non-profit entities). Our members are kept up-to-date with the latest EHS management trends, information, and techniques to advance their personal and professional objectives.
While general membership is exclusive to "in-house" managers, the NAEM Affiliates Council offers EHS service providers the same benefits of membership. The Council is composed of companies that provide services and products to corporate, institutional, and governmental organizations.
The NAEM Mission & Vision
The Mission of the organization is to: - Provide peer-to-peer networking for EHS managers;
- Develop EHS professionals as leaders;
- Advance the integration of EHS into business as a value driver; and
- Promote the growth and implementation of EHS management systems worldwide;
so, as to offer tangible benefits to the regulated entity and other stakeholders.
NAEM’s Vision is to be the premier organization supporting the EHS manager to advance the principles and practice of EHS management, including environmental protection, occupational health and safety, and sustainability worldwide as sources of business value and growth.
Chapters
NAEM Chapters offer members an opportunity to express their views, meet informally with peers, share information, and address common problems at the local level. Networking through chapter participation provides a support system that can strengthen your career, and make us each more effective.
NAEM provides a Chapter Charter, an agreement that supports and guides state and regional chapter administration, and helpful guidelines to encourage active membership development and participation. Additionally, the Charter provides consistent organization for management and policy to meet NAEM objectives while providing appropriate autonomy for the addressing of local interests, including regulatory issues and individual chapter fund-raising activities. All chapter activities are consistent with the mission of NAEM, but created and implemented at the local level.
