NYC Department of Environmental Protection

The NYCDEP operates and maintains a world class water supply system to deliver more than 1.1 billion gallons a day of the highest quality drinking water to the residents of NYC, and a wastewater conveyance and treatment system capable of processing over 1.3 billion gallons of wastewater a day to protect the environment of NYC’s surrounding waterways. With an annual budget of $4 billion, the Bureau of Engineering Design and Construction (BEDC) is responsible for the planning, design, and construction of major capital projects to support these functions. These projects include water supply treatment and conveyance facilities, wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, combined sewer overflow abatement facilities and appurtenant facilities to ensure the continued delivery of high quality drinking water and improvement of water quality within New York Harbor and its estuaries. With these projects BEDC’s EH&S section implements the Agency’s EH&S policies and procedures and develops EH&S policies and procedures and guidance documents for BEDC. Our staff ensures our EH&S compliance on all capital construction projects. BEDC provides many opportunities for a rewarding and exciting career.
