This position is located at and supports our Sutton, West Virginia Oriented Strand Board plant.
It is Weyerhaeuser’s core policy to be responsible stewards of the environment. The Environmental Coordinator serves as the primary site resource to ensure compliance with all environmental regulations. This position reports to the Engineering Manager, with responsibilities to the Regional Environmental Manager.
Key Functions: This individual will identify, manage, direct, and audit the systems required to limit risk factors leading to environmental incidents, compliance violations, and property damage. Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and implement environmental policies, procedures and programs
- Ensure compliance related activities such as environmental permit requirements and training are robust & maintained
- Ensure that inspections and recordkeeping are performed
- Partner with mill leadership to manage capital project compliance with environmental regulations
- Support environmental compliance audits at the facility and participate in offsite audits at other Weyerhaeuser units
- Record and report pollution upsets to the appropriate regulatory agencies, and to the appropriate Company environmental contact
- Develop & conduct environmental training for all associates
- Model safety as a leader
Qualifications: The following qualifications are required:
- High School Diploma/General Education Degree (GED) with minimum 6 years related experience OR Associate’s/2-year Degree with minimum 4 years related experience OR Bachelor’s/4-year Degree with 1 year related experience
- Ability to read and understand applicable environmental requirements and permits, including: state and municipal waste requirements, stormwater, spill control, hazardous materials, and chemical management
- Basic understanding of compliance management systems [e.g. Environmental Notebook, Environmental Management Systems (EMS)]
- Understands environmental compliance auditing process and abiity to complete an internal audit/review
- Ability to develop permit applications and manage permit requirements
- Project management skills to include the ability to develop and implement environmental processes
- Proven skills in administering, managing and training on environmental policies
- Strong, engaging, people-centered leadership style
- Proactive, assertive and ability to work with a sense of urgency
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Exceptional organizational, prioritization & planning skills
- Demonstrated basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Office and other windows based programs
- High level of integrity, strong work ethic, good judgment and problem solving skills
The following qualifications are preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental, or Safety
- Knowledge of site operation processes
