Job Description

The Laboratory Team Leader is responsible for health and safety performance in the BP-Husky Refining's Quality Control Laboratory to achieve our goals of no accidents, no harm to people and no harm to the environment.The Laboratory Team Leader investigates accidents and near-misses, internal or external to laboratory and participates, conducts or ensures completion of regular safety meetings. This position directs certification and quality testing on raw materials, intermediate products, finished products, and QA/QC samples in compliance with company product specifications and federal, state, and local regulations. This position also manages the Control Laboratory, ensuring accurate test results are provided to internal and external customers according to a pre-established schedule, within the Laboratory’s operating budget, and utilizing safe laboratory practices. This position is responsible for developing and implementing standards and procedures, methods and practices for all the analytical procedures in the Quality Control Laboratory. This position will develop, implement and maintain a Statistical Process Control / Quality Assurance program in all sections of the laboratory. This position is also responsible for providing training and skill building on analytical standards, procedures and practices, including equipment and technician/technical staff certification requirements. The Laboratory Team Leader will provide technical leadership to the administrative and analytical team personnel to ensure the proper use of analytical equipment, proper application of analytical methods/procedures and the certification of analytical systems, equipment and personnel pursuant to Fit for Purpose and Good Laboratory Practices guidelines.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry or a science related degree is required.- The incumbemt must have exhibited leadership skills in directing, appraising, counseling, and coaching employees as well as possess the necessary skills to manage and direct a diverse workforce, including setting goals and career direction to technical staffing.- A minimum of 5 years relevant previous experience, ideally in petroleum or environmental laboratory setting is required.- Must possess a string background relating to laboratory analytical work including SPC, QA/QC monitoring and control charting, LIM system functionality and implementation.- A strong background relating to analytical equipment used in quality control laboratories and working knowledge of on-stream analyzers used in process areas.- The incumbent must possess the skills required to conduct incident investigations, safety meetings and execute safety awareness programs as set forth by company rules and regulations.- Experience working in a union environment also is required.
