The Position - The Manager of Mechanical Construction Quality Control [CQC] will have direct responsibility for all aspects of RMT’s business plan for insuring wind turbine towers are constructed to design and industry standards. WindConnect implements and adheres to a stringent health and safety program into which the incumbent will be required to uphold and insure compliance for the Construction Quality Control Group. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing Quality Control [QC] business unit and project specific programs, resource planning, budgets, and constructability reviews, as well as providing a liaison for coordination and integration of RMT engineering and construction staff.
Responsibilities - Develop comprehensive, integrated CQC programs (business unit and project specific) that are consistent with RMT’s policies, objectives, and contract documents which include appropriate work processes, systems, verifications, and procedures for successful completion of wind turbine erections. · Insure mechanical components of projects are installed to achieve customer satisfaction within the agreed standards, specifications, scope, budget, and schedule in a manner which is compliant with the company standards for safety, environment, and community relations. · Guide the development and implementation of project specific CQC programs which result in verification and surety of mechanical component construction while insuring safe, low cost, and timely project execution. · Direct, control, and provide effective coordination of internal and external engineering and construction staffs in accordance with approved plans. · Develop, implement, and manage mechanical component data gathering operations insuring wind turbine towers are constructed to insure compliance with all applicable policies, rules, laws, and government regulations within project scope and operation. · Develop and implement a program in which CQC field staff assist in the expedition of component erection, including QC verifications, documentation, communication of component supplier and transportation firms, and coordination of on-site construction staff. · Support wind turbine construction staff by providing sound construction implementation advice and data to assist in building projects to agreed standards while aiding in advancing the construction project schedule and lowering the budget. · Supervise, recruit, mentor, and develop personnel engaged in the performance of CQC and construction work, focusing on utilizing cost effective and proper implementation of construction techniques. · Represent the company with key clients during turbine project reviews. · Insure that personnel with key duties and responsibilities are suitably developed and undergo appropriate training and assessment. · Insure that the roles, responsibilities, work processes, systems, procedures, and mutual expectations of respective parties are clearly defined, communicated, understood, and effectively implemented by all. · Insure that safety, overall quality, cost, schedule, and environmental objectives of the project are met.
Requirements - A bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical discipline such as Construction, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering would be a plus. An advanced technical or business degree, Professional Engineering licensure, or post graduate qualifications in Project or Construction Management is highly desirable. The successful candidate will have a minimum of ten years of construction quality or project management and progressively responsible business experience with concentration in heavy highway / civil or industrial construction. This position also requires 5 years of experience in a quality related field or Lean Construction or Manufacturing.
A background that includes wind energy projects is preferred. A proven track record in organizational development, leadership, and project execution is required. Demonstrated background in internal team and subcontract management is a must, as is experience with organized labor.
