Corporate staff leadership role with primary responsibility to analyze, interpret and convert global environmental laws, regulations, risks, liabilities and initiatives to Company policies, programs, procedures, standards, training, processes and actions to be developed, implemented and integrated across business organizations. Directs the company efforts to: effectively sustain regulatory and permit compliance, and optimize environmental performances while facilitating business value. This position is responsible for maintaining processes to ensure that the impact of Company operations and products are effectively managed to protect or minimize risks to the business, environment, community and our customers.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Global responsibility for tracking, interpreting and analyzing business impact of environmental laws, standards or regulatory initiatives that impact the Company in the geographic areas in which it does business. • Developing, integrating and executing global strategies, policies, programs, procedures, standards, training, processes and actions throughout the business organization to ensure regulatory and permit compliance. • Develop, align and implement annual and short term environmental action plans, projects, initiatives, goals and objectives that maintain balance between corporate environmental affairs, business needs, and operations, including annual operating plans, capital planning, resource staffing and budgeting. • Ensure the adequate assessment, prevention and control and management of environmental issues and risks arising from operations; incident investigations; real estate transactions; due diligence, acquisition and divestiture activities, vendors and suppliers, company products and business affairs. • Functions in a leadership role regarding: agency enforcement actions; regulatory proposals; permitting issues and negotiations; environmental technical, engineering, and science support; assessment and control of environmental issues arising from operational processes, equipment, and materials. • Coordinate and manage environmental assessments, inspections and audits to monitor compliance with regulatory and company requirements. Partner with operations to ensure that corrective and/or preventive measures are taken. Establish and enable processes to enhance corporate and operational capabilities for increased self-governance. • Identify, establish and implement environmental initiatives and continuous performance improvement opportunities that align Company EHS, Sustainability, ELS and business initiatives and strategies. • Manage the Company’s environmental engineering and remediation services, including: oversight of remedial and abatement activities, the environmental component of reserves and associated accounting processes. • Mentoring and professional development of EHS professionals on environmental engineering & sciences disciplines, compliance and permit management, as well as sustainability. • Manage the systems and programs to control, mitigate or abate environmental air, water, waste polluting activities and their associated impact to the environment, community and natural resources. • Advocate and negotiate for effective legislation, regulations and industry standards that will balance business needs and provide environmental protection for operations, the community and the environment through effective or efficient solutions. • Interact, report and provide company representation to regulatory bodies relating to particular aspects of corporate environmental affairs, compliance matters, enforcement actions, remedial activities and regulatory affairs. Interfacing with external professional services, customers, regulators, industry and represent company at public meetings, hearings, and perform public relations duties. • Ensure that environmental accidents, incidents, compliance deviations and enforcement actions are fully investigated and work with operations to ensure that corrective and/or preventive measures are taken. • Identifies, tracks, monitors, reports and communicates environmental performances, key issues and activities to relevant levels of management, operations, customers, suppliers, and business partners.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: • Undergraduate degree in business, engineering, or technical discipline, with a minimum of ten (10) years environmental/engineering experience in a manufacturing environment. • Advanced certification in environmental related field. • Proven leadership skills – able to influence and motivate others to quickly achieve results. • High energy and passion for excellence, bias for action, adaptability, and resilience. • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present complex topics in a concise manner. • Effective interpersonal skills dealing with people at various levels and in a variety of functions. • Critical thinking skills and ability to constructively resolve conflicts. • Broad understanding of business issues, metrics, organizational linkages, and customer value. • Ability to challenge the organization in a manner that maintains trust and respect. • Self-confident, ability to accept and respond to challenges in a positive manner. • Ability to travel as required at least twenty-five (25) percent of the time. • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
