Job Description
Safety Compliance and Training Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: Implements environmental health and safety programs at Southern division locations, as specified by corporate policy and Federal/State (OSHA, MOSH, VOSH, EPA, MDE, VA DEQ, and DOT) regulations, delivers or oversees the delivery of applicable EHS training, and ensures location compliance with Corporate and Federal/State Regulations.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES: The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The actual duties required of this position will vary.

• Along with local management, and under direction of Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), assist in the formulation of EHS programs, policies and procedures.

• Oversees the delivery of all EHS and DOT training and ensures that all employees, supervisors and managers are trained and proficient in required subjects.

• Verifies that site maintains all required EHS records including but not limited to: training certifications, material safety data sheets (MSDS), hazardous chemical inventory lists, industrial hygiene monitoring data, environmental permits, driver qualification files (DQF’s).

• Works with local management to establish regularly scheduled safety meetings with warehouse, vending, fleet, drivers, office employees, and management on pertinent safety topics.

• Assists in development of EHS metrics using both leading and lagging indicators.

• Interacts with outside contractors to ensure that all relevant EHS information is exchanged and that contractors work in accordance with Corporate and Federal/State Regulations.

• Acts as a resource for locations in conducting accident investigations and identifying unsafe work practices or conditions.

• Verifies that driver evaluations and re-evaluations are conducted in accordance with company standards.

• Verifies that DOT drug testing meets pre-employment, random and post-accident/post-injury testing, regulatory and company standards.

• Works with local management to establish and, if necessary, improve the process of employee observations.

• Ensures that location resolves motorist observation reports (MOR’s) in a timely manner and takes appropriate action, when necessary, regarding “at risk” employees.

• Provides accident data, and accident reduction goals to management.

• Conducts ongoing (minimum quarterly) compliance assessments to ensure facility complies with Federal and State Safety, Environmental and Transportation Safety regulations

• Completes newly developed “risk profiles” for all locations on a quarterly basis.

• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION: Required: • Bachelor’s degree in safety, health and/or environmental sciences, engineering or related field. Appropriate experience may be substituted for bachelor’s degree • Strong technical skills • Ability to interact positively and effectively with employees at all organizational levels • A minimum of 5 years of appropriate experience in a manufacturing environment • Basic familiarity with environmental compliance; specifically SWP3, SPCC • Understanding of basic statistical concepts for use in accident trending

Preferred: Beverage Distribution or transportation industry experience.

Actual machines, tools, equipment and/or software used will vary. • Office equipment including, but not limited to, computer, phone, fax machine, copier and calculator.

• MS Office including Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

ENVIRONMENTAL/ATMOSPHERIC WORKING CONDITIONS: The following environmental/atmospheric working conditions are commonly, but not always, associated with the performance of this position. The actual working conditions will vary.

• Primarily office environment

• Possible exposure to extreme weather conditions.
