Fire Protection Engineer
Location: Richmond, Virginia
Job Summary:
· This position will be filled as either an Engineer II or Engineer III based upon the skills and qualifications of the successful candidate.
· Corporate Risk Engineering supports the Corporate Risk Management group in several ways:
· Provide information for insurance renewal,
· Assist and provide oversight of periodic facility inspections
· Track and assist with resolution of recommendations resulting from facility inspections
· Review and investigation of major loss incidents
· In addition, the Corporate Risk Engineer will provide consulting and design support on property and fire protection engineering issues to all company business units. Project support activities will include participation in the development of fire protection system specifications, design and bid evaluations, construction walk-downs, and participation in and review of system final acceptance tests.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles
· In depth knowledge of property protection methods for electric generating and gas processing facilities
· In-depth knowledge of fire protection engineering principles is required
· Thorough knowledge of the design, installation, and testing applicable to all types of fire protection systems required
· In-depth knowledge of fire protection systems design
· The ability to develop property/fire protection design specifications for major construction projects
· Thorough knowledge of fire protection system design basis and testing methods, procedures
· Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project engineer. Strong personal computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access)
· Ability to interpret and apply codes, regulations, guidance, and recommended practices
· In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs
· Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks
Education:
Bachelors in Mechanical Engineer with at least 10 years experience or Fire Protection Engineering Degree from an accredited institution with at least 5 years directly related experience or PE License in Fire Protection discipline preferred
Travel Requirements:
25 to 35% mainly day trips with some travel overnight
