Chevron Oronite Company is accepting online applications for the position of Health, Safety, and Security Specialist located in Belle Chasse, Louisiana.
Overview:
The Health, Safety and Security Specialist supervises and manages the Contract Security Guard Force and all facets of the facility security plan.
Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
• Provides advice and counsel to all levels in the plant organization concerning compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, standards and Company Policies and Safety(OE). Develops processes to meet the requirements of OE expectations and communicates these requirements to management. Develops annual, comprehensive safety program in support of OE. Participates in local OE reviews. Manages the development of all Safety and Security training programs and materials. Identifies and helps Oak Point adopt best practices for Safety and Security. • Performs Safety and Security functions which includes: - Managing the review and revisions for over two dozen plant safety and security instructions including five Corporate safe work practices; - Establishes and maintains metrics, conducting periodic reviews of performance and progress toward goals and continuous improvement; - Monitors, reviews and comments on proposed laws and regulations; - Coordinates corporate compliance, OE, USCG, Security Management Reviews and insurance reviews; - Conducts on-site audits and inspections; - Safety awareness activities; - Manages transportation safety and security for Oak Point • Serves on many other teams within the plant as needed as the leading safety and security representative. Through these and other activities, maintains engagement with the workforce to demonstrate leadership accountability that helps build an OE culture • Serves as the Contractor Safety Counsel for managing contractor prequalification safety process, on-site audits, develops and updates the Contractor Safety Program, reviews contractor injury/illness logs and evaluates contractor safety training and site-specific training with the local Safety Council (Greater New Orleans Industrial Educational Council - GNOIEC) and facility staff. • Manages Oak Point representation on community committees such as the Local Emergency Planning Committee and the Greater New Orleans Industrial Educational Council for the security aspects. Coordinates with the Home Land Security, FBI-Joint Terrorism Task Force, and is the Coast Guard-Facility Security Officer. • The tasks this individual is responsible for are often non-routine and unstructured, requiring creative solutions. • This individual will apply attained experiences and knowledge in solving routine to moderately complex problems. • This individual must work effectively with Staff to within the function, and the technical team on assigned projects. There may be communication with employees in other functions as required. • Must be able to work with outside agencies on Safety and Security issues • Limited management direction is provided to employee on new projects or assignments as well as review of activities and priorities. • The ideal candidate will be a proactive contributor and subject matter expert on team projects. • To be successful, this individual must demonstrate favorable results through coaching and influencing others.
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required. • 3 to 5 years Chemical, Refinery or Industrial Safety and Security experience. May also consider recently graduated degreed safety engineer with HES experience. • Good written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to respond to changing priorities, work well with others, and multitask. • Industrial security experience. • Proficient in developing records systems, reports, and secure system processing requirements. • Working knowledge of security requirements and incident investigation. • MS Office proficiency • Ability to follow safety principles, standards, practices and analytical techniques.
