Job Description
CPKelco, a J. M. Huber company and a leading manufacturer global producer of specialty ingredients used in food, pharmaceutical and consumer products has an immediate opening for an Environmental Specialist based in our Okmulgee, Ok plant. Under the direction of the Safety and Health Manager the Environmental Specialist functions as a leader and contact for environmental issues at the plant. Ensures that the Okmulgee plant meets and exceeds all federal and state environmental standards & regulations and requirements set forth by management. Participates in developing a vision for ESH, which includes continual enhancement of established programs and consistent implementation of new programs within a team environment. Incorporates accountability for environmental performance into all levels of management and at the plant operations level. NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION: Participates in the development and implementation of environmental practices, projects and program at the plant. Responsibilities include; meeting environmental permit requirements, which include storm water, wastewater, air emissions, solids waste, noise and oil pollution. Works with members of Plant leadership to ensure appropriate environmental programs and procedures are in place. Develops and reviews environmental correspondence and reporting with state and federal agencies. Maintain liaison with governmental bodies to stay abreast of new legislation. Advise management of potential impact and recommend course of action. Represents the Okmulgee Plant in contract negotiations with environmental state and federal regulatory agencies. Plant’s resource for regulatory inspections with city, state and federal agencies. Follow up on all recommendations, incidents and variances. Provides resources and participate in the various ESH teams in the plant. These include the Environmental Action Committee, ESH Audit teams, and the Behavioral Based Safety Process T.W.I.S.T.E.R. Work with staff, line management, plant personnel and contractors to correct and improve environmental performance through scheduled routine audits. Work with the Training Dept. personnel to provide environmental training necessary to comply with plant, local, state and federal requirements. Requirements Bachelors in engineering, environmental, or health and safety or business administration and experience in environmental and EHS in an industrial environment. 2-5+ years experience in the areas of Environmental/EHS. The individual must be experienced in working with federal and state environmental standards and regulations, and understand Federal, State and Local occupational safety, health, environmental and ISO rules and regulations. Proficient in the use and application of PCs and related office applications. Ability to effectively deal with other people, especially other company personnel, to enlist needed cooperation in coordinating regulatory requirements. The individual must possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
