Safety/Process Safety Engineer
Description
Duties:
Provide consulting services primarily to sites within the company and business units in the areas of occupational safety, process safety, and occupational health. Represent the company on industry committees related to these areas. Perform auditing of company facilities to ensure compliance with regulations and company standards and report findings to site, business unit and the company management. Manage one or more programs for the company Americas sites, for example site Process Safety Management programs. Assist in oversight/management of the company site industrial hygiene programs. Extensive travel required.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks: • Monitor, direct & coordinate the company Process Safety Management Programs • Advise company sites and business units on Occupational Safety and Health, Process Safety and Fire Protection issues • Interpret safety and health regulations for site and business unit management • Lead specialized analyses and communicate results to site and business unit management • Provide leadership to company sites and business units in Process Safety Management programs. Define the purpose, scope and direction of the program, develop program plans and procedures, communicate to sites/BUs and get buy-in, develop training for the program, present the program to the sites/BUs, and assist the sites/BUs with implementation and upkeep • Serve as an RCMS Function Coordinator for one or more Responsible Care® functional areas (formerly Codes of Management Practices), if so assigned, including emergency response, security, etc. • Serve as an informed consultant in identifying and assessing risks. • Be knowledgeable how Responsible Care® principles are applied to promote performance improvement • Maintain a general awareness and overview of the status and opportunities for the BUs and site to improve
Requirements
Qualifications:
Education – BS in engineering, chemistry or related safety field including a working knowledge of chemistry & chemical engineering fundamentals. Certification by an accredited body (e.g., CIH or CSP certification preferred or ability to obtain certification within 3 years.
Experience – 10 – 15+ years (Senior Level position); 5 – 7+ years (Junior Level position), including manufacturing plant or corporate experience with a minimum of 10 years in the field of Process Safety Management (minimum of 5 years PSM experience for Junior Level position); hazards recognition and testing experience; specialized safety analyses and investigation skills & experience.
Skills – Good verbal, written, and presentation skills and ability to communicate with people at all organization levels.
