THE COMPANY

Eaton is focused on four product/technology areas: Fluid Power -Hydraulic systems and components used in mobile, industrial and aerospace applications.
Electrical -Electrical control, power distribution, uninterruptible power systems and industrial automation products and services for the industrial, utility, light commercial, residential and original equipment markets.
Automotive - Superchargers, engine valves, valve train components, cylinder heads, locking and limited slip differentials, sensors, actuators, intelligent cruise control systems, tire valves, fluid connectors, decorative body moldings and spoilers.
Truck - Drivetrain systems and components for medium-duty and heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Products include manual and automatic transmissions, clutches, driveshafts, steer and drive axles, trailer axles, tire pressure control systems and collision warning systems.
GOING BEYOND COMPLIANCE
Eaton has always been a dedicated proponent of environmental, health and safety excellence for years but in 2005, the corporation took the next step by hiring a Vice President of Corporate EHS who possess a 20+ year career in EHS standards and practices.
During 2006, Eaton continued to raise the bar. The company’s goal is to go beyond merely complying with regulations. Eaton has become a global leader in protecting the environment and its people by focusing on four key initiatives:
* Continuously improving Eaton’s EHS performance worldwide * Increasing the transparency of our its efforts be reporting key data publicly * Operating sustainable business. * Transforming EHS into a value added process for all stakeholders
To help drive these initiatives, Eaton launched MESH (Management System of Environment, Safety, Security and Health). This system consolidated all existing programs into one unified, integrated EHS management system. As a result, all of Eaton’s facilities across the globe are now working towards consistent EHS goals and applying the same metrics. Starting in 2007, MESH standards have become a key annual performance measure for all facilities
THE POSITION
The Director of EHS will work very closely with the Vice President in providing global leadership for this critical area and helping set the EHS agenda for the corporation and ensures consistent compliance throughout the company. As one of the principal EHS professionals and point-of-contact internally and externally (with local, state and federal compliance and regulatory EHS agencies), the Director will assist in establishing, promoting, and monitoring the effectiveness of Eaton’s worldwide environment, health and safety programs and practices and develop effective awareness tools designed to communicate group-wide initiatives, globally.
Additional duties include:
Provide leadership across Eaton in fostering business and regional consensus-building and ensuring Eaton maintains compliance in all areas, best-in-class EHS practices, and is current on regulatory and compliance issues and overall trends that may impact EHS for the company.
Provides consultative guidance to the all levels of management for all EHS policies; provides functional support to senior staff and operating management in assisting them in achieving their EHS objectives.
Develops industry-accepted EHS standards and ensures their distribution and implementation throughout the organization.
Collaborates with other EHS professionals, Risk Management, HR and others in developing audit protocols to ensure all Eaton locations are in compliance with group EHS standards.
Assists business groups in providing functional guidance for their implementation of standards and conducting audits for existing facilities and those recently acquired.
Provides stewardship for the group’s EHS coordinator network through hosting regional and corporate in-house development programs/workshops
Actively participating in business’ respective EHS committees;
Assisting in developing specialized EHS programs
Provide essential EHS management information tools that sufficiently track the incidence, frequency and severity of health and safety incidents throughout the Company.
Responsibility to ensure that qualified, capable individuals are involved with EHS at all Eaton locations and provides guidance to these individuals, as needed.
Recommend to senior management key risk management measures to mitigate the experience.
THE PERSON
The preferred candidate will have a broad EHS background, ideally working for a global, multi billion dollar corporation. He/She will have a minimum of fifteen years of experience in managing EHS issues-including work experience in a global manufacturing environment and doing so for a corporation with a similar commitment to global EHS programs.
Critical to the success of this candidate will be possessing strong technical knowledge in general environmental and safety disciplines and has demonstrated the ability to drive change and innovation of EHS standards within a matrix environment.

EDUCATION
A bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental engineering or related science field is required. A Master’s is preferred. Certifications such as CSP, CIH, or PE are desired.

Eaton recognizes this role as a critical position within the corporation and will create a compelling package consisting of a base salary, a performance incentive bonus, long term equity and complete benefits.
LOCATION
The position will be located at Eaton’s world headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio and the role will have at least 33% travel.
