Job Description
Project Safety Manager (Job ID 6872)

Enbridge Liquids Pipelines, Inc., a leader in crude oil and natural gas transportation, gathering and processing, is currently seeking a Project Safety Manager.

Responsibilities: As a member of capital projects teams, proactively provides specialist safety services for pipeline project development and execution activities.

Provide technical support in assessing design and construction safety hazards during project development and execution (HAZOPS, hazard assessments, etc.)

Coach and influence construction and project management personnel to effectively manage project safety.

Develop and implement project specific safety management plans and establish project specific safety objectives.

Ensure project safety requirements are effectively developed and communicated during contract negotiations.

Secure and optimize use of competent qualified safety personnel (project safety supervisors, field safety inspectors) to develop and implement the construction safety management plan for the specific project needs.

Provide technical safety support and assistance to construction management personnel as required to effectively and proactively manage safety hazards, issues, and concerns during construction execution.

Actively monitor project safety performance, assess hazards, identify trends and improvement opportunities, and implement corrective actions.

Formally assess individual contractors overall safety performance periodically throughout the project and at the end of the project and provide feedback to contractors on improvement opportunities and follow-up required.

Develop and implement safety communication and reporting protocols (safety activities, incidents, safety performance results, etc.) for internal and external stakeholders.

Lead and support industry and labor organization initiatives as appropriate to further leverage and enhance safety within the broader construction industry.

Assist with the on-going development and administration of the Company’s Safety Management System (SMS).

Participates on internal and external safety committees.

Qualifications: Degree, diploma or certificate in occupational safety.

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent professional safety designation desirable.

Knowledgeable in pipeline and oil & gas operations, hazards and safety management practices.

Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience in occupational health and safety in an oil & gas or industrial construction environment.

Proven interpersonal, communication, negotiation and leadership skills.

Demonstrated ability to be innovative, initiate and manage change, and deliver results in a matrix environment.
