Job Description
NatureWorks LLC is a joint venture between Cargill and Teijin Limited of Japan. Dedicated to meeting the world’s needs today without compromising the earth’s ability to meet the needs of tomorrow, NatureWorks LLC is the first company to offer a family of commercially available low carbon footprint polymers derived from 100-percent annually renewable resources with cost and performance that compete with petroleum-based packaging materials and fibers. This polymer uses 65% less fossil fuels to produce and emits less than 80% greenhouse gases than traditional petroleum based polymers. The company applies its unique technology to the processing of natural plant sugars to create a proprietary polylactide biopolymer, NatureWorks® and marketed global as Ingeo™.
Position Summary/Purpose:
Prepare environmental impact statements and apply for any new permits or renewals as appropriate Provide business with forward looking perspective impact of changing environmental legislation Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all process and product related environmental issues for NatureWorks. Manage the licensing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal firms and monitor waste handling. Organize and equip spill prevention and spill control efforts Participate on industry/regulatory environmental councils, as appropriate, to further the best interest of NatureWorks Monitor, communicate, and report environmental issues and facility performance to plant operations, corporate, federal and state agencies. Deliver and implement through the operations team environmental compliance systems that meet federal, state and corporate requirements Conduct and coordinate environmental training, including DOT training Responsible for environmental approval on Management of Change (MOC)
Required:
Manufacturing operations experience Bachelors Degree - prefer Environmental Engineering but will also consider Chemical, Civil or Mechanical with relevant experience 5+ years of experience in the environmental regulatory field handling permitting and compliance for a chemical/plastics manufacturing facility or group of facilities In depth working knowledge of air, water and solid waste environmental regulations Excellent oral and written communication skills, creativity, and entrepreneurial skills. Excellent collaborative skills. The position requires working with individuals from technology, business management and legal; must have ability to work with a very diverse group of individuals and backgrounds. Track record of achievement in complex and changing environment. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and multiple tasks Ability to conduct work with initiative, persistence and bring projects to closure on established timelines Ability to work on multi-functional teams Effective organization and interpersonal skills Job will require some level of routine travel between the three sites of Blair, NE, Minnetonka, MN and Savage, MN.
