The Environmental Engineer at our Red River Paper Mill will provide technical support to operations to ensure facility compliance with all appropriate environmental regulations and permits. The successful candidate will also serve as the subject matter expert in the area of air permitting and regulatory compliance for the mill.
Key Functions Job tasks will include, but are not limited to, the following: Plans, organizes, manages and evaluates the environmental programs at the mill, while working with limited direction. Maintains a working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations as well as a solid understanding of federal permitting programs such as Process Safety Management, non-attainment, Title V, and state construction & operating permitting. Prepares reports for submittal to regulatory agencies. Prepares air, water and solid waste permit applications and negotiates conditions that ensure both efficient plant operation and regulatory compliance. Develops and implements environmental policies, procedures and systems to monitor, follow-up, and ensure regulatory compliance. Anticipates and reports environmental compliance issues and makes recommendations to appropriate site leadership for correction. Serves as primary contact for and responds to leaks, spills and any other releases of potential environmental pollutants; investigates and ensures appropriate corrective action. Assists in the planning and supervision of selected mill process testing.
Qualifications
The following qualifications are required: Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Chemical and/or Environmental Engineering or Pulp & Paper Technology Minimum 6 years environmental experience in a process-oriented environment Must have a proven track record of consistently demonstrating leadership skills, including accomplishments in safety and environmental Strong understanding of environmental regulations Strong understanding of continuous emissions monitoring requirements and equipment Ability to interact effectively with government regulators and mill personnel Excellent written and oral communications skills, as well as organizational planning and project management skills Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Software and PI The following qualifications are desired: Knowledge of kraft pulping and chemical recovery processes
