Job Description

We're looking for an innovative and well-rounded MANAGER of SAFETY, MEDICAL and LOSS PREVENTION to join our rapidly growing, successful, $1.7B+ global manufacturing firm. Established in 1922, Electro-Motive Diesel is a key market player in diesel-electric locomotives for commercial railway applications, diesel power engines for marine propulsion, offshore and land based drilling rigs, and stationary power generation. KEY JOB ELEMENTS: - Complies with the terms of local and national labor agreements. - Advises management on safety, security, and training related matters. - Meets with union health and safety representatives. - Conducts programs in safety training for other employees. - Responsible for security of a 150 acre site including card access, key systems and CCTV. - Manages a staff of 13 security officers and 5 medical practitioners. - Reviews new equipment and methods for avoiding potential safety hazards. - Tracks, analyzes, and evaluates recordable injuries. Identifies and manages opportunities for reducing injuries. - Coordinates Workers Comp case management. - Coordinates or supervises investigations. - Monitors the removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards, and training of employees on safety policies, procedures, and regulations. - Oversees the implementation of Safety and Security initiatives and programs. - Verifies compliance with health and safety regulations and ensures all necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines. - Manages the participation in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures. - Assesses hourly training needs and identifies opportunities for hourly training. - Coordinates and tracks hourly training. - Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. - Prepares and delivers presentations. - Develops departmental goals and objectives. - Participates in the selection of employees. - Provides training and career development for employees. - Improves current technical and managerial skills.

QUALIFICATIONS: Educational Qualifications Include: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Additional Candidate Qualifications Include: Required: - Proficiency as a supervisor. - Experience in successfully managing people, projects and/or programs. - Ability to perform a variety of complex tasks. - Familiarity with safety standard concepts, practices, and procedures. - Familiarity with hourly training programs and grant funding programs. - High level of analytical ability to assess and identify appropriate alternative courses of action for definition and resolution where problems are highly unusual and/or complex. - Working knowledge of inter-departmental or group relationships and program objectives. - Highly developed verbal and written communication skills. - High level of interpersonal skills to handle difficult situations as well as diffuse interpersonal conflicts effectively.
