Title: Safety Manager
Supervisor: Director EH&S with a strong dotted line to the Division EHS Manager and Regional Operation Managers that are supported.
1. FUNCTION (DEPARTMENT ROLE): •Support Regional Managers to provide leadership, guidance & support and ensure consistent development, implementation and execution of integrated strategies and solutions with regard to all EH&S issues •Support the Regional Managers in activities related to the development of business in the respective region as it relates to safety processes, risk assessments, start-up of operations, etc. •Identify focus/problem locations and business units within the geographic area of responsibility •Analyze trends and make recommendations to improve results of key performance indicators. •Provide effective guidance and technical support for business operations and safety committees within their geographic assignment •Support regional management systems and strategies that ensure cost effective business solutions in .the areas of: a.) Employee Safety & Health, b.) Transportation Safety, c.) Industrial Hygiene, d.) Hazardous Materials, e.) Ergonomics and f.) Environment for both facilities and vehicular operations. •Support Corporate EH&S strategies. Ensure regional objectives align with Our client business plan. •Provide leadership and direction to the operating managers regarding appropriate action steps to address loss drivers in Workers Compensation, Auto Liability and General Liability. •Manage in support of the Safety Department, regulatory compliance inspections. Support and assist the Safety Department to interface with all regulatory agencies regarding inspections, compliance issues, occurrences and employee safety complaints. •Identify, report and provide solutions to the Region regarding employee safety programs, regulatory compliance, security breaches and employee health issues. •Represent the EHS Department, when directed.
2. PURPOSE (END RESULTS): •Improve bottom line performance through the significant reduction of injuries, collisions, and safety expense. •Improve overall EH&S awareness & knowledge at all employee levels. •Drive and administer consistency of the EH&S processes in all field operations. •Drive improved regulatory compliance and accountability for all field operations.
3. FINANCIAL IMPACT (DOLLAR AMOUNT THAT BEST MEASURES POSITION'S FINANCIAL IMPACT ON COMPANY): •Position supports the EH&S team to provide effective leadership to positively impact the bottom line of the Business Units by helping to reduce employee injuries/illness and vehicle collisions that result in direct and indirect safety expense of millions of dollars. Key safety expense reduction areas of opportunity are as follows: o Workers Compensation Costs o General Liability Costs - o Vehicle Liability, Loss, and Damage o Security Issues
4. QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE) •BA/BS Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Risk Management, Industrial Hygiene or related field required. Three to seven years of direct field safety experience in managing employee safety & health, environmental and fleet safety management. This position requires frequent travel - candidate must have an ability to accommodate heavy travel schedule. •Candidates possessing any of the following certification are preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Candidate with strong technical knowledge and background in OSHA/DOT/FMCSR regulatory standards, safety engineering and environmental protection is a plus. •Successful candidates must pursue continuing education and development to stay current with existing and evolving regulations and best practices. 5. Skills and Knowledge: •Must be able to speak fluent English and Spanish. •Ability to work with all levels of management in multi-functional departments. •Strong interactive skills operating within a matrix environment. •Ability to facilitate training for all levels of employees, supervision and management. •Self-starter and able to work alone while demonstrating ability to work collaboratively within a team. •Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills dealing with all levels of employees, customers, and management. •Able to impact and effect positive change with flexible, open-minded, positive approach. •Excellent analytical and creative problem solving skiffs. •Business acumen and understanding of financial results. •Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage/perform multiple tasks.
