Energizer Battery is seeking an experienced Safety Health and Environmental Affairs (SHEA) professional for our Maryville, Missouri facility.

We are seeking a dynamic, assertive and passionate Safety Health and Environmental Affairs Coordinator who will lead the Maryville Plant in not only compliance efforts, but more importantly, continuous improvement initiatives.
This is a highly visible position that interacts closely with colleagues, supervisors, managers and regulatory personnel. The Safety Health and Environmental Affairs Coordinator is responsible for leading and coaching all colleagues to ensure Safety, Health, and Environmental excellence, as well as providing guidance to line management for activities relating to safety, health, and environmental objectives.
The successful candidate will be a critical contributor in leading, maintaining and improving facility Safety Health and Environmental Affairs efforts as follows:
• Ensure continuing improvement in workplace safety and health through participation in the Missouri OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).
• To participate in and lead in delivering on Energizer’s Sustainability effort through environmental improvement programs aimed at reducing our overall impact on the environment while maintaining an economically viable business model.
• Maintain/improve the site emergency response process (procedures, equipment and people).
• Direct and coordinate all plant environmental activities to assure compliance with regulatory/corporate requirements and to drive continuous improvement efforts, reaching “above and beyond” simple compliance with environmental requirements.
• Lead activities directly related to Occupational Health such as Industrial Hygiene, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, ergonomics, etc. A close working relationship with the part-time Occupational Physical Therapist will facilitate compliance and improvement.
• Coordinate safety, health and environmental training for salaried, hourly, and new personnel, and maintain training records and documentation.
• Provide early-stage safety, health, and environmental guidance on facility projects to minimize or eliminate adverse impacts.
• Coordinate/improve facility audit and inspection programs to assure that all plant operations are in compliance with Local, State, Federal and company requirements. Participate in and function as key contact during governmental safety, health and environmental inspections.
• May initiate, lead or manage research and implementation projects related to safety, health and environmental improvement efforts.
• Responsible for data collection, interpretation, analysis, reporting and response to critical plant data for injury/incident prevention initiatives.
• With assistance and input from the Global Safety, Health and Environmental Affairs Team in Westlake OH, track Federal, State and Local safety, health and environmental regulations and evaluate their effects on plant operations.
• Interface with functions such as Production, Engineering, Technology, Quality, Human Resources, Purchasing, Legal Affairs, Public Affairs and other plant and corporate functional groups to meet assigned safety, health, and environmental objectives.
• Provide safety, health, and environmental guidance; assist in monitoring the efforts of consultants and contractors participating in plant activities with safety, health and environmental impacts.
• Responsible for the on-time/accurate preparation of external safety and health reports, government filings, and responses to governmental inquiries or information requests.
• Key contact for Local, State and Federal safety, health, and environmental regulatory authorities.
• Minimal out-of-area travel is anticipated (appx 5%).
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Safety or other degree with significant applicable experience.
• Will generally have five years relevant experience in a Safety Health and Environmental leadership position, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Has demonstrated sustained high level of performance in a position with strong oral and written communication skills.
• CSP certification a plus
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Under general supervision by the Westlake, Ohio Engineering Manager, the Safety Health and Environmental Affairs Coordinator works closely with co-workers, plant, and the Westlake Ohio Global SHEA Team, including functional areas such as Production, Engineering, Technology, Quality, Human Resources, Legal Affairs, Public Affairs, Purchasing and other functional groups. Maintains a very close contact with local Plant Manager, Engineering Manager, and with the Global SHEA Team.
