Responsibilities:
• Responsible for all aspects of Health and Safety management for Georgia Pacific's plywood manufacturing facility in Gurdon, Arkansas.
• Fulfill the responsibilities of management consistent with corporate and mill objectives and expectations.
• Develop, assess, monitor, and improve the mill Safety Management System. Inclusive of the 7-Key element of SMS: Leadership commitment, Employee ownership, Risk assessment, Risk management, Change management, Sustain and Improve, Knowledge Processes & Training
• Overall management of the Safety support staff, ensuring continuous knowledge and skill development; advancing the use of MBM Philosophy & the 10 Guiding Principles.
• Actively lead in acquiring safety knowledge and skills development efforts for hourly and salaried employees.
• Design, Develop and Implement programs for the continuous improvement of health and safety that are proactive, data based, and prioritized according to risk assessment and reduction potential.
• Champion the Mill’s Safety Committee and provide positive support to department safety representatives.
• Assure compliance with all applicable safety requirements.
• Manage the financial aspects of the department.
• Manage computer-based monitoring and tracking systems (i.e. TRAX) for health and safety items.
• Interact with all mill personnel to assess culture, impart knowledge, identify risks, and demonstrate Safety leadership.
Education:
• Bachelors degree in Safety/Health or related field preferred
• 5 + years experience in manufacturing environment
• Certified safety professional or related professional certification a plus
Knowledge/Skills:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent presentation skills
• Excellent personal interaction skills; proven ability to interact with all organizational levels.
• Computer skills; including knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows-based operating environments.
• Strong technical and professional safety knowledge
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology and industrial hygiene practices preferred
Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years Safety related experience
• 2 years demonstrated managerial experience
• Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and implement health & safety programs
• Ability to professionally interact with governmental agencies (i.e., OSHA, DEQ, EPA).
